Missions: Not Just For Big Kids!
Middle School students take their first missions trip
This summer Covenant Life’s Middle School ministry took its first missions trip ever! With Disney tunes blasting, a team of 13 kids and 7 adults drove to Allentown, PA in July where they helped HOPE Community Church run a weeklong Vacation Bible School. Over 300 kids and parents from the community came to the free program and received food for their hungry stomachs and souls.
Below are some snapshots and descriptions of our amazing week...
Our main "job" for the week was to write and perform the skits. Each night we did a skit about how God used Moses in many amazing and not so normal ways. Every time we ended with a cliffhanger and could hear kids yelling, "Noooo!" and "What happens next???"
One afternoon we walked around town handing out flyers and praying for the kids who lived in those neighborhoods. After the program that night we heard that a mom and daughter came to the church for the first time because they found our flyer!
We all brought different skills to the team. Some helped with setup and ran games. Some wrote and directed the skits. Some played with the kids. Some helped prepare and serve dinner. Some even helped with face painting and made balloon animals. It was awesome to watch everyone use their gifts!
Worship was our favorite time of the night. It was always so lively and the kids loved it! We even got to come up on stage and help lead the last night.
According to the weather forecast it was supposed to storm on the last night. Because the camp was held outside, we didn't know what was going to happen. We prayed that the storms would pass, and after a few sprinkles of rain they did! God answered our prayers and we had a great last night.
What a super team we had! Thanks to everyone who supported us, prayed for us, encouraged us to go on this trip, and sent us from CLC. It was an honor representing our church in Allentown, PA, and we are so excited for the partnership God is building between Covenant Life Church and HOPE Community Church.
