Living Wisely

How should I live?

From the moment we wake up until the second we fall asleep, we are constantly asking ourselves this question.

At times we think about it consciously, most of the time it's just there humming in the background. But we are always sorting out - consciously or functionally - what to do with our time and effort.

It’s easy to think that God has more or less left us to ourselves on that one. That it’s about “theological stuff.” That beyond a few obvious do’s and don’ts, the Bible doesn’t have all that much to say about spreadsheets and diapers and car trouble. In one sense, it’s true. Scripture doesn’t tell me how to change the oil in my car. But it gets alot closer than you might think. The Bible is full practical guidance on how to live in the world God made. How to cultivate a life lived unto him moment by moment.

There is one book that’s especially chock-full of that kind of wisdom: Proverbs. This summer, we’ll look at the wisdom of God applied to six areas of everyday life in this very unique book of the Bible.

Sermon Review

June 20 – The Fear of the Lord – Robin Boisvert

Strange as it may seem, the heart that both fears and loves God is not divided but united in a singular way. The fear of God and the love of God are emotions rooted in trust. Faith in his warnings, causing us to fear. Faith in his promises causing us to love.

June 27 – The Proverbs  – Kevin Rogers

Kevin Rogers introduces the book Proverbs by overviewing the author's material, objectives, audience, and claim.

July 11 - The Sluggard – Robin Boisvert

The sluggard is someone who does what he wants to do instead of what he ought to do.

July 18 - Sexuality – Steve Wyzga

We live wisely when we stay far from the forbidden woman, invest in the wife of our youth, and fear God.

July 25 - Money and Wealth – Jose Troche

The book of Proverbs has valuable, matter-of-fact wisdom that we can learn from in relation to wealth and possessions.
