The real substance of our Christian faith is well presented in Paul’s greeting at the very beginning of his letter to the Philippians
Center your life on Jesus—on the joy of His grace in the past, the confidence that He holds your future, and the purpose He’s given you in the present—and you will experience the power of a gospel-centered perspective.
Paul’s prayer is that we would live lives worthy of the gospel, growing in love, knowledge, discernment, and holiness for the glory of God.
Despite opposition, God advances his gospel through those who are in Christ. Therefore, Christians can put their confidence in him.
We are called to renounce Christian envy and to rejoice that Christ is proclaimed despite our differences. There is no room for sibling rivalry in the household of God.
The sources of Christian confidence in trying times are help not of this world and hope beyond it.
Like Paul, we can face an uncertain future with eager and confident expectation, knowing that Christ is our everything—both in life and in death.
God will be with us when we face opposition and will use our steadfastness and unity through suffering to strengthen us, encourage us, and show the world what it means to follow Jesus.
Christ’s pattern of humility fosters a unity that fuels the advance of His gospel.
Jesus is the supreme model of selflessness. Because of this, the Father has given him the name above all names. We are called to follow his example of humility and worship him for his greatness.
